At Burslem we are immensely proud of our long heritage of producing and maintaining public memorials and war monuments. Our expert craftsmanship is on display around the world and closer to home. Locally we have been commissioned to design and supply many monuments just a few of which include the new war memorial in Tonbridge, the design and reinstatement of the West Malling Royal Airforce base memorial stones at Kings Hill and the restoration of the historic drinking water fountain on St Leonards seafront.
Burslem takes the same care and consideration in the cleaning and restoration of war memorials as we do in their manufacturing. Some public memorials require a degree of repair and refurbishment following cleaning to return them to their former glory while for others a clean is all that is needed.
Our talented team of stonemasons utilise their extensive knowledge of stone types to ensure the method of cleaning and any products used to achieve the optimum finish are suitable for the particular memorials concerned. Whilst this may appear straightforward, a great deal of irreparable damage can be done to monuments and memorials when the wrong method or cleaning product is adopted (although perhaps the most common cause of damage is caused by the incorrect mortar mix used for pointing and plastic repairs). With many years of experience Burslem are specialists in the cleaning of memorials of all sizes and in a huge variety of locations from smaller village memorials through to monuments in busy cities.
